Activity 1: Do’s and Don’ts for Safe Drinking

Match which of the following are what we should and shouldn’t do to have safe drinking

  • Items:
      • Eat before going to a party where there is alcohol involved
      • See how the night goes and decide how many drinks to drink by then
      • Have a game plan with friends to leave should anything unexpected happen
      • Know my drinking limits
      • Mix soft drinks and alcohol together
      • Drink so that I appear cool
      • Pressure my friend to drink with me so that I do not appear lonely
      • Swim while drinking
      • Count the number of cups I have drank
      • Find a new drink after I left my cup somewhere to go to the toilet

    • Do’s
      • Eat before going to a party where there is alcohol involved
        (it helps line your stomach)
      • Have a game plan with friends to leave should anything unexpected happen
(it helps to plan with your friend in case there is danger)
      • Know my drinking limits
(it helps to know how much you can drink so that you can safely go home)
      • Count the number of cups I have drank
(it helps to count so that you can keep track and control your intake)
      • Find a new drink after I left my cup somewhere before I went to the toilet
(it helps to just find a new one since you do not know what might have happened to your drink – it could have been spiked with something else!)

    • Don’ts
      • See how the night goes and decide how many drinks to drink by then
(this is dangerous because you may not be aware of what might happen in the party)
      • Mix soft drinks and alcohol together
(again, mixing drinks can have unpredictable effects on the body, which could put you at risk!)
      • Drink so that I appear cool
(this is not really a good reason to drink, as you may drink more than you should)
      • Pressure my friend to drink with me so that I do not appear lonely
(pressuring our friends is not the way to go since they also may get uncomfortable – they enjoy the party with you without drinking as well)
      • Swim while drinking
(drinking affects our senses and we might not be in the right state to swim as we may drown with our senses affected.)
